Ecou de serenadă - Song Description

Ecou de serenadă is a musical interpretation of George Bacovia’s poem, created for the Boema Bacoviană album.

The song enters a world where beauty has already begun to disappear. Black pansies wither against white marble, ruined statues remain in an abandoned park, and the narrator returns alone, accompanied only by his own shadow. Everything suggests that something once existed here - love, youth, dreams, perhaps even hope - but only traces remain.

At the centre of the song is the image of the lost serenade. It is no longer a romantic declaration meant to reach someone. It wanders without destination, becoming an echo of something that can no longer be recovered. The recurring phrase „Vise, ah, vise, aici, au murit” transforms the deserted park into a place where memories themselves seem to have been buried.

The music follows this idea rather than simply accompanying the poem. The atmosphere begins with the suggestion of a serenade, but gradually fragments. Phrases appear, disappear and return incomplete, as though heard from somewhere beyond the empty park. Silence becomes part of the composition, while the final moments deliberately refuse a comfortable resolution.

Within Boema Bacoviană, Ecou de serenadă explores one of Bacovia’s most characteristic spaces: a world suspended between beauty and decomposition, intimacy and absence, memory and death.

It is not quite a serenade anymore.

It is what remains after the serenade has ended.

Lyrics

Pansele negre, catifelate
Pe marmora albă s-au veștejit,
Și-n tainice note s-au irosit
Parfume triste, îndoliate.

Eu singur, cu umbra, iar am venit,
O, statui triste și dărâmate,
Pansele negre, catifelate,
Vise, ah, vise, aici, au murit.

În haine negre, întunecate,
Eu plâng în parcul de mult părăsit...
Și-a mea serenadă s-a rătăcit
În note grele, și blestemate...
