From the recording Forbidden Songs
Sailing to Nowhere is a slow-moving meditation on distance, uncertainty and the quiet acceptance of being carried beyond familiar shores.
Built around repetitive bass lines, sparse guitars and a restrained rhythmic pulse, the song abandons traditional ideas of destination and resolution. Instead, it drifts through fog-covered horizons, disappearing coastlines and endless stretches of water where direction gradually loses its meaning.
Neither tragic nor hopeful, Sailing to Nowhere exists in the space between departure and arrival. It is a song about movement without certainty, about leaving things behind without knowing what lies ahead, and about finding a strange sense of calm in the absence of answers.
Influenced by the atmospheric side of post-punk and coldwave, the track combines minimalist arrangements with a fragmented narrative that unfolds more like a series of passing images than a conventional story.
Part of the upcoming album Forbidden Songs, Sailing to Nowhere continues the record's exploration of repetition, distance, memory and the unseen spaces that exist between people, places and time.
Lyrics
The harbour fades
The fog moves in
A light goes out
A light goes dim
The water shifts
Away from shore
The radio dies
The channel dulls
The compass turns
And turns again
It points nowhere
It points within
Sailing to nowhere
No shore
No sign
Sailing to nowhere
No yours
No mine
The water takes
What I can't save
Sailing to nowhere
Wave after wave
The ropes complain
The metal sighs
A distant horn
Then nothing arrives
The coastline's gone
The names are gone
The things we kept
Don't travel long
Maybe the sea knows
What the city forgot
Maybe the distance
Is all that I've got
Maybe there's nothing
Waiting ahead
Just water below
And weather instead
Sailing to nowhere
No shore
No sign
Sailing to nowhere
No yours
No mine
The water takes
What I can't save
Sailing to nowhere
Wave after wave
Sailing to nowhere
Sailing to nowhere
Further out
Further out
Sailing to nowhere
